Labels and provenance

Every export says it is imagined, in the pixels and in a file beside it.

A generated image can look like a render of a finished design, a photo of a real site, or a hand drawing. So every image the studio exports says what it is.

Export burns the label into the image and saves a provenance file beside it: the genre and style, the exact prompt, the model, what was sent, and what the image can't claim.

The label#

Press the download icon on an image. The studio saves wrengler-generated-….png with a band across the bottom that says, in capitals, that the image is AI-generated and not a simulation result.

It's part of the pixels, not metadata, so it travels into slides and reports with the image. It's on every export and can't be turned off.

The mark software reads#

The same file also says it to software. Its metadata carries the industry tag for AI-made images (IPTC's digital source type trained algorithmic media, in XMP), which photo tools, stock libraries and the platforms that label AI images look for, with the label as its description. Like any metadata, a tool that rewrites the file can drop it; the label in the pixels stays.

The provenance file#

Beside the image, wrengler-generated-….provenance.json records:

  • the genre, the style and the choices, with the version of their wording;
  • the prompt, exactly as the model received it;
  • whether a reference was sent, and whether it was a Rhino capture or an uploaded image;
  • the model and the request;
  • caveats written by Wrengler, never by hand: that the image is not a simulation result, that no study results or documents were sent, that a reference was a visual guide and nothing checked the geometry, and what this genre's images must not be read as (a planting is not a planting plan, a facade is not a specification).

Keep what you want#

Images stay on the canvas for the session and aren't kept after you close the panel. Two ways to keep one:

  • Download saves the labeled PNG and its .provenance.json to your computer.
  • Save to project (the folder icon, shown when the Rhino file is linked to a project; in a project's chat on the web, the button under the image) adds the labeled PNG to the project's files with wrengler-generated-….provenance.md beside it: the same record, written to be read. The project assistant reads it too, so you can ask how an image was made. You need to be able to add files to the project (a lead or an editor).
